I have to credit an Agoraboard contributer, LewisFamily, for directing me to this story. He so appropriately said: "I am always impressed when a Walmart cashier can articulate our nation's problems better than the top liberal academics from Harvard."
The article by Christine Rousselle, the impressive, young conservative we are referring to, can be read here:

I am aware of lifetime welfare recipients and a father's suicide (leaving 2 kids & wife) in my hometown.
ReplyDelete"The worldly aspiration of our day is to get something for nothing. The ancient evil of greed shows its face in the assertion of entitlement: I am entitled to this or that because of who I am—a son or a daughter, a citizen, a victim, or a member of some other group. Entitlement is generally selfish. It demands much, and it gives little or nothing. Its very concept causes us to seek to elevate ourselves above those around us. This separates us from the divine, evenhanded standard of reward..." Dallin Oaks
There is no doult that the welfare state or generations that has been created, was not set up to operate this way.I have been saying forever,no matter what system you set up,man or women figure a way around the rules. We need to look at the states that have address the welfare problem and found solutions. It sounds like Maine should be one of the top canidates to set up the solutions that have worked. This needs to be wrote and spoke about now,I believe in SC the welfare recipicant must attend classes to help them enter into the work force. Think about it,all the money just given away, when it is worth it to spend more for a short term for a long term result. We also need to share the success stories even more to give encouagement for others that they will feel better about themselves and pass that along to their family and friends.Bottom line we need to generate the positive assets, advantages and power behind being self efficent. Also breaking the chains that in some cases has been passed from one generation to another with no future insight.
